ABOUT THE BOOK

The science of Usul al-Ifta deals with the principles a Mufti must understand when researching Islamic legal questions and issuing Fatwas. It covers the methodology of Ifta, the responsibilities of the Mufti and Mustafti, and the safeguards required to avoid errors when determining and communicating Islamic legal rulings.

Within the Hanafi tradition, the study of Ifta also requires an understanding of the hierarchy of jurists and legal opinions, recognised sources of the Madhhab, principles of Tarjih (juristic preference), and circumstances in which rulings may be affected by custom, necessity and changing conditions.

Presented as a Khulasa or summary, this book provides students with a convenient resource for studying and revising these principles. It is particularly suitable for Takhassus fil-Ifta students, trainee Muftis, Ulama and advanced students of Hanafi Fiqh.
