ABOUT THE BOOK

Small in size yet rich in content, this work is written in clear, accessible language and presents a concise exposition of the pillars of faith and Islam according to the Ḥanafī school. Authored by Imam Nūr al-Dīn Ibn al-Ghazzī, it also lays out the foundations of ethics and spiritual conduct, making it a well-rounded introduction to Islamic belief and practice.

The book was composed as an instructional guide for the soldiers of the Ottoman state, offering a succinct summary of the essential rulings of Islam. It opens with an introduction on the virtue of striving in the path of Allah, the merits of the Ottoman mujahid armies, and the spiritual and practical causes of victory and divine assistance.

The author then organizes the work into eight structured chapters covering the beliefs of Islam, the foundations of legal rulings, purification, prayer, zakāh, fasting, and ḥajj. A dedicated chapter explains the path of spiritual realization and the principles of taṣawwuf, while the final chapter focuses on the path of drawing closer to Allah Most High.

The book concludes with the author’s chains of transmission (isnād) in the Islamic sciences discussed in the work, as well as his isnād for the ḥadīth of mercy (Musalsal bil awwaliyyah).

The critical edition is prefaced by the editor with a biography of the author, an introduction to the work, and a detailed description of the manuscript sources used, following established principles of verification
