Introduction to Sunan Abi Dawud
ABOUT THE BOOK
The science of Hadith is vast and multifaceted, developed and preserved through the lifelong dedication of the Muhaddithūn who studied, taught, explained, and authored works across its many disciplines. For beginners, the sheer scope of this sacred science can often feel overwhelming. Recognising this challenge, scholars throughout history have authored introductory works to ease students into the study of Hadith and prepare them for advanced learning.
This book is an English translation of the introduction to Ad-Durr al-Manḍūd ʿalā Sunan Abī Dāwūd, Mawlana Sayyid Muhammad Aqil’s renowned Urdu commentary on Sunan Abī Dāwūd, which itself is a transcription of his scholarly lectures. The work is designed to provide students with the essential foundations and methodological tools required before embarking on the study of the Ṣiḥāḥ Sittah and other major Hadith collections.
By presenting key principles in a clear and structured manner, this book ensures that students are not overwhelmed by the size and complexity of the canonical Hadith works. Instead, it equips them with the understanding needed to engage meaningfully with these texts, derive benefit from them, and progress confidently in their journey through the science of Hadith.
