ABOUT THE BOOK

The original Kharidah al-Bahiyyah was composed to summarise the foundations of Sunni Aqidah according to the Ashʿari school, and Imam al-Dardir subsequently wrote this commentary to explain its concise verses and clarify their theological arguments.

The work introduces important discussions in classical Islamic theology, including the rational categories of necessity, impossibility and possibility, alongside foundational discussions concerning knowledge of Allah and the principles of Tawhid.

Because of its concise but structured treatment of Aqidah, al-Kharidah al-Bahiyyah and its commentary became established works for students of Islamic theology and attracted numerous later commentaries, marginalia and scholarly explanations.

A valuable Arabic text for students of Aqidah, ʿIlm al-Kalam and traditional Islamic studies, particularly those studying the classical Ashʿari theological tradition.
