السلطة السياسية وحركة رواية الحديث ونقده
ABOUT THE BOOK
This book addresses the issue of the relationship between political authority and the narration and dissemination of the Prophetic hadith in the early centuries. It focuses on the hadiths concerning the virtues of three Companions: ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, al-ʿAbbās ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, and Muʿāwiyah ibn Abī Sufyān (may Allah be pleased with them), given their strong connection to the existing political authorities.
The book adopts a new approach in dealing with the narrations of their virtues. It examines isnād data as historical data, studying the breadth of their circulation among narrators and across various regions, in order to answer the question of how much the ruling political authority influenced the narration of hadith.
Through a historical-statistical comparison, the book concludes that political authorities did not have an effect in the chapter of the virtues of these Companions, as shown by the wide spread of narrations affirming the virtue of ʿAlī in contrast to the other Companions. This indicates a complete separation between the desires of political authorities and the methodology of the hadith scholars regarding the topic of virtues.
